Treat the gym like a job
For the past few years I have been inconsistent at best with going to the gym. I would go for a few weeks and o then I would fall off and a lot of that was due to not having a regular time that I go. Being self-employed is amazing for being able to do things anytime but sometimes results in just not doing them
I tried going in the mornings because that was one sure way to get it done everyday but then 6am would roll around and I would tell myself I had the whole day to workout so why not hit snooze and stay in bed (dangerous road to go down for what it does to the rest of your day but more on that another time
One day I realized that I didn't have this problem whenever I ran cross country in college and had 6am practice - I set my alarm for 10-15 minutes before and I wasn't ever even late because I knew that I HAD to be there at 6am sharp because it was my job to be there
Now I view it as my job to be walking in the gym door at or before 6am every. single. day. I only live a 3 min drive from the gym (one of the main reasons I chose my apartment) so I set my alarm for 5:45 brush, brush my teeth, throw a scoop of creatine in my water and I'm out the door.
The unexpected benefit of doing it this way is I don't waste time like I used to in getting out the door or in starting my workout once I'm actually o at the gym and it's a much more purposeful time all around that adds way more time to my day than just the 15 mins earlier that I'm waking up
Actions to take
- Pick a workout plan
- Give yourself a time you need to start in the gym in the morning (or if going to the gym isn't your problem maybe it's work on a side project)
- Set your alarm however long you need before to get ready
- Go dominate
